S stands for Sitka spruce, and r stands for rosewood, so this is a straight-forward D-28 type of dreadnought guitar. It has a mahogany neck, an ebony fingerboard, and a bridge. The scale length is 650mm, and the nut width is 43 mm. So the scale length is about 5mms longer than what you usually see on a Martin, and the nut is 2mms slimmer. Tuning machines are Schaller Vintage type, they are working well and quite precise. István changed the nut and the addle to bone from TUSQ.

sound

The sound is slightly brighter than a D-28 and more focused on the bass area. It seemed that the microphone loves this instrument, and so do I. The finish is something that Furch calls vintage finish, and I like it more than Furch’s high-gloss finishes, mainly sound-wise. The highs are not that sparkling but still bright but more mellow.

setup

István’s setup is easy to play, the string tension is low, but the guitar doesn’t buzz. I could fire myself quickly to play high-speed lines easily. If your hands are not too big, you can also play fingerstyle guitar, not just Flatpicking stuff with this nut width. I enjoyed playing boom-chick tunes, the chick sound is really remarkable on this Furch.

The guitar is responsive. Even a quiet, single-line melody sounds lovely on it. 

And of course, it is a dreadnough. It was built to play it with a pick.
